With the growing number of macadamia milks on the market it can be difficult to know which one to choose. This guide will help you select the right one for you.
Macadamia milk has many uses. With its creamy texture, it’s easy to make a straight swap of dairy milk for macadamia milk in baking and cooking, as well as in hot beverages like coffee, hot chocolate, and chai. Macadamia milk is also a great vegan alternative to pour over cereal or muesli, or to incorporate into smoothies and smoothie bowls. It even works in creamy cocktails!
Supermarkets and a growing list of other retailers now stock a range of maca milk products for you to choose from. However, the different brands can vary in taste and texture.
For the most delicious nut-milk experience, ensure you match the right milk to your purpose.
To make that easier, we conducted a taste test of six widely available macadamia milk products.
Here are our tasting notes:
Suncoast Gold Mac Milk – Unsweetened
This unsweetened macadamia milk has a nutty vanilla-like smell, but doesn’t taste sweet to the palate. It has a thinner consistency than some of the other macadamia milks on the market, but no gritty texture. This milk is a perfect choice for if you are looking for a product to swap into your breakfast routine. It works for smoothies and smoothie bowls as well as in hot drinks and pancakes.
Milkadamia – Unsweetened Macadamia Milk
Milkadamia produce quite a number of nut milks, so make sure you choose the right one for your purpose. Their unsweetened macadamia milk is creamy-looking and pleasant to drink, with none of the grit that homemade milks sometimes have. We recommend it as a refreshing drink on it’s own or for pouring over cereal. If you want to get a little more adventurous, try making it into a macadamia milk bubble tea!
Milkadamia – Latte Da
This sweetened milk has a vanilla aroma and a creamy mouthfeel. The barista-approved formula is made from raw macadamia nuts and designed to foam beautifully for the perfect mac milk latte. We also recommend this as a great choice in cocktails and milkshakes, as it provides lovely vanilla notes to those drinks. For those feeling adventurous, it also makes a delicious dalgona coffee.
Australia’s Own Macadamia Milk
Only found in Woolworths, this milk has an oat-like aroma and strong, buttery macadamia flavour. Its creamy mouthfeel lingers in the mouth. Another milk that’s formulated with baristas in mind, this is a great choice for lattes, hot chocolates and chai drinks – especially if you are using a coffee machine. Don’t have a coffee machine? A simple iced latte is another good idea for this plant based beverage.
Macamilk
This cool milk, straight out of Byron Bay in the heart of macadamia country, is designed in partnership with baristas, making it perfect for coffees. It’s strong macadamia flavour is part of its appeal, as well as its creamy mouthfeel that also works in smoothies and milkshakes. For a refreshing plant based pick-me-up, skip the work of making homemade mac milk and swap in this product in our delicious matcha macadamia milkshake.
